Aniwaniwa Visitor Centre & Museum
Located next to Lake Waikaremoana in Te Urewera National Park, the Aniwaniwa Visitor Centre and Museum can be accessed via State Highway 38. In addition to providing information about the Te Urewera area and park, the Aniwaniwa Visitor Centre displays an intriguing collection of artefacts from the park that depict the history of the area's indigenous Tuhoe people.

Army Museum Waiouru is situated as part of a living Army environment next to the Waiouru Army Base, a unique fortress-like building which resembles a castle with a moat. Located in the middle of central North Island and a gateway to Tongariro National Park, this museum offers displays that chart the history of New Zeland's Army.

The Wairoa museum houses an impressive photo collection along with displays and artefacts that provide insight into the history of Wairoa and its ties to Maori and European settlement. Open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm and Saturday from 10am to 12pm.
