Art Deco Buildings In 1931, Napier experienced a devastating earthquake that destroyed much of the young and growing town. Much of the Napier was re-built in the style popular for the day—Art Deco. Today, walking down Napier's main streets is like taking a step back in time. Guided walking tours depart from the Art Deco Shop at 2pm daily in the summer, and weekends and Wednesdays in the winter. Address: Art Deco Shop, Deco Centre, 163 Tennyson Street Napier New Zealand
